The Red Plate
In my house growing up, whenever anyone had a day of particular importance (birthday, good report card, cheerleading try-outs, etc.) that person got to eat off "the red plate." So, in keeping with the Whitney family tradition, Jack ate his dinner of choice off our red plate after his first day of preschool today!
Jack couldn't have been more excited to start school. I, on the other hand, had a bit of a hard time coming to the realization that the time had arrived when I would not have complete control over what my little man is exposed to. Although he's only going 2 days per week, it's a big step for both of us! Last night as we were getting his backpack ready and trying on his new shoes, he said he was going to "try out" his shoes and began running across the room and jumping. It was so sweet and Trent and I both felt so bummed realizing how old he is getting. Here he is outside our house this morning all ready to go:

At his darling preschool:
He walked right to his nametag and knew where to put his backpack! It was hard for me to leave him there and the whole way home Charlie kept saying, "bye-bye Gack!"
Trent came with me on his lunch break to pick him up from his big day. He really loved it!
Congratulations on such a big day, Jack! We sure do love you.

What a cute mom you are Em! I know...it's so hard to leave them behind to basically fend for themselves. Andrew had his first day of school today too - it was nice (I got a lot done!) but also so sad to think this is his last year of preschool before KINDERGARTEN! Jack looked soooo cute and I loved that red plate idea....we did the same thing in my family but I totally forgot about it! I'll have to whip mine out and save it for the next special occasion...maybe I can eat off of it to, one day, celebrate getting all my ironing done (you should see my ironing closet - scary!) I loved Jack's backpack and he looked so excited for his first day - way to go "Gack"!
Em, he is one of the cutest Preschoolers I have ever seen. This post made my eyes water...it seems like yesterday I called when he was BORN. I had a hard time Taya's first year and this year wasn't any easier.
Love the Red Plate. We also had the "You Are Special" red plate growing up and we do it with our kids.
Emily, We are going through the same thing at our house. Scary to think that they are already beginning school. They still seem so little!! Jack's gator backpack is the coolest...
How funny! We had a special red plate in our house too. I always looked forward to the day I could eat off it.
Jack looks adorable. So glad he had a good day!
What a cute lil' preschooler! You'll love he break...and I'm sure he'll love preschool!
Oh, and the cookie looked divine on the "red plate"!
He looks ADORABLE! I love that Back.Pack... and I LOVE THAT PRE.SCHOOL!
I too can't believe how fast time flies. Isn't it SO fun to have one on one time with Charlie... I'm loving my time with Porter!
We should take the kids to the park!
Hi Emily.. It's Dede, Jim's sister! I hope you don't mind me peeking at your cute blog, but it's so fun to have 2 boys like you and see all of the cute things you do with them. Aren't boys the best? and - your boys are adorable!! I would love to add you to our blog, so if you are interested leave a follow-up comment with your email address or send me an email to dede.schroeder@gmail.com.
Aw, that's such a big day. My kids always try out their shoes, too! Cutie-pants little one - they get big too fast, though weird that sometimes it's not fast enough!
lookin good on his first day! I sometimes wish sid would stop growing...then I sometimes get excited for when I can send him on his way for a few hours.
Jack is the bomb.com. I had so much fun with him last weekend and I´m so glad I got to see his excitement about starting school. And his message to me after school on Tuesday was the best. I´m saving it. Give Charlie a high five for me.
That is too cute! He looks so proud, I love it! I can't believe you have a little one old enough for preschool, time flies!
